A second chance love story.

Lily Hill was a good girl. Sweet, innocent, hardworking, with her whole life in front of her. And completely in love with Jake Stewart.

Jake was the ultimate bad boy, who screwed around and never played by the rules. He had his own secrets and demons, and for him, Lily was the light to his dark. He knew how Lily felt about him. It was the best un-kept secret between friends. But the one good thing he did was keep his hands-off Lily. She’d never survive his deepest desires.

Or so he thought.

A lot can happen in five years.

Lives change. People change. But what about love?

Reminiscent Hearts edition by Rachel De Lune Contemporary Romance eBooks

I struggled with this story until around 62%. This wasn't what I expected and while I prefer darker, angst filled romances, I didn't feel like Jake had a single redeeming quality. He was a mean, angry guy. I agreed with his remark at the end of many of his chapters "God, I'm a bastard."
But then he experienced a sort of rebirth and began to evolve into the person he was always meant to be. He came through for Lily in a huge way after tragedy turned her into an emotionally dead shell of her former self. Jake saved her. Yeah, sometimes he was impulsive, childish and impatient, but give the guy props - Lily was probably the only person he'd ever loved and when he finally admitted it to himself he was all in. He was very endearing. I felt like pair of them blossomed together.
I loved Lily. She was tough and spunky and didn't take Jake's crap. She lost so much and survived on her terms. You gotta admire that.
There are 2 rather violent sex scenes that lowered my rating - not because sex bothers me but because they were bordering on rape. But I would recommend this story. It ended up being surprisingly good. Cute ending.

Reminiscent Hearts edition by Rachel De Lune Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

I like this author and all her previous works. In this novel however, I didn't feel the characters and stayed remote. I also have never hated the sentence " God, I'm a bastard" so much. This for the first half of the novel was Jake's end thought of himself, with his unrequited lust for the innocent Lily.

Lily is an interesting character, during the first half of the book, she was super sweet, secretly in love with Jake, stayed his friends even as he broke her heart as a teenager and then after university even after she found a second love, which during the adult part of the novel she changes due to tragedy in her life and her entrance into Jake's life shocked him.

The reverse can be said of Jake as he was a bad boy through and through, angry at his parents, his brother, women and Lily. Essentially he was a user and a jerk. However he did come.e back into his own in the latter half as he tries to do the right thing and save Lily from herself.

These two go through a lot in this book and have baggage that defines their lives as teens and adults. When a second chance to be together come around, will their differences let them work it out. Solid 3.5 stars for me.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I am a HUGE fan of Author Rachel De Lune and never give up a chance to read her work. Reminiscent Hearts is a beautiful 2nd chance romance story that had me fully absorbed and rooting for the characters from the very beginning. Rachel earned herself 5 stars from me on this one for so many reasons. She kept me glued to the pages and curious about both the past and the future of Jake and Lily. She had my stomach in my throat, and tears on my cheeks when I found out. The steamy, sexy bits are scorching hot and a true reflection of the author’s talents. This story brought out all the feels for me; joy, anger, sadness, and desire, just to name a few.

Jake and Lily are unlikely high school friends with an unrequited attraction to each other. Jake is determined to keep his feelings to himself; he does all he can to ensure he is not the object of Lily’s infatuation in an attempt to save her from himself. Lily sees through the rough and tough exterior of Jake and holds a special place in her heart for him.

Reminiscent Hearts follows Jake and Lily’s their unconventional friendship as teenagers and young adults, until their shocking chance encounter years later. The story is written in both past and present and dual POV. The author has done a good job using this style. She keeps the reader in the moment and the story does not become confusing, it only enlightens the reader, and gives a glimpse into the thoughts and minds of both characters.

Both Jake and Lily have seen more than their fair share of tragedy and rejection. They have both handled their situations in ways which may make you want to strangle them but characters have a very strong resolve which is why Jake and Lily are sure to be one of your all-time favourite couples. This story has a few side characters that I wanted to strangle as well but these characters are part of what makes Jake and Lily who they are. One thing I loved about Lily’s character is her strength. She may have had a setback but she is not easily deceived nor is she a withering flower in need of protection. She stands on her own two feet and puts those who need to be, in their place. Jake is very protective over Lily and his love for her is probably what saves him.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and I look forward to more stories from this author.
I loved this story. From beginning to the end I couldn't put it down. Have tissues near by because you will need them. The ending cracked me up. I wasn't expecting that.
From the blurb, I was not quite sure what to expect from this book besides the fact that it is a second chance at love story. The story visits our two main characters at various times over a 15 year period but spends roughly 2/3 of the book at the end of the 15 year period. The story gives both Jake and Lily's POV (alternating chapters). The story gives us an in-depth look into Jake and Lily's heads over the course of their relationship. I liked these two characters. Jake was totally unexpected and proved to be a better man than his past would account for. The secondary characters really add to the story and really show us the reason for Jake's character development. The story has lots of hot sex but it is the actual story that really shines through in this book and keeps you reading because you need to find out what is going to happen next.
